Cabrillo College – Green Technology Education Center – LEED Platinum Certified
The Cabrillo College Green Technology Education Center in Watsonville, CA will be a satellite campus for curricula in sustainable building practices and energy. The project is complete for the 14,000 square foot LEED Certified facility. This project required the deconstruction of an existing building for which we provided LEED specific bid documents and specifications in order to achieve the maximum points possible towards the college’s LEED Platinum Certification effort. That deconstruction achieved a Construction Waste Diversion rate of 95%.
Other sustainable features include photovoltaic panels, daylight harvesting, natural ventilation, pervious pavement, native plants, recycled content, and use of nanomaterials such as self cleaning coatings and glass and photocatalytic materials that reduce pollution.
“The design uplifts the vocational curriculum and is a laudable response to a public project. It gives dignity to a Civic Program and to the students. It is a thoughtful and comprehensive response to sustainable strategies.” – Buzz Yudell, FAIA and Richard Fernau, FAIA, Jury Members
